Deutsche Telekom's profit in Romania goes up while revenues go down
German telecom company Deutsche Telekom's profits were above expected on the back of increasing gains in Romania and the Netherlands, according to the company's latest financial report. Third quarter revenues in Romania stood at some EUR 260 million, a 3 percent drop on the same period in 2011, while the nine-month revenues stood at EUR 784 million, a bit short of the EUR 799 million during the same period in 2011.
Third quarter revenues in Romania were close to those in the Czech Republic, of some EUR 269 million, and higher than in Slovakia and Austria. Neighbor Bulgaria was at only EUR 86 million.
On the profit side, Romania brought the group EUR 78 million in the third quarter, over 8 percent higher than in Q3 2011, while for the entire nine-month period, profit was of 216 million, EUR 15 million more than in Q1 to Q3 in 2011. Deutsche Telekom's third quarter figures show an operational profit of EUR 1.3 billion in Europe, above the EUR 1.26 billion estimate, as well as total revenues of EUR 3.6 billion.
The telecom operator operates on the Romanian market via Greek group OTE, which runs Cosmote and Romtelecom, two of the largest players on the local telecom market. Deutsche Telekom does not operate on the local market under its own brand.
