Deveselu military base in Romania to be ready by year-end

21 August 2014

Romania’s defense minister Mircea Dusa said on Wednesday, August 20, that construction works on the military base in Deveselu, Olt county, should be ready by the end of this year and that the base should become operational in 2015.

Dusa inspected the construction site in Deveselu together with U.S. officials and told them that the Government is making efforts to respect these deadlines. The Romanian side has executed the fencing and is now working on the lighting and surveillance systems, while the American side is taking care of the works inside the location.

The Romanian authorities must also finish the infrastructure work in the town, which include water and sewer systems as well as access roads. For this, the Government must allot another EUR 2.9 million.
