Romanian telecom group Digi fined EUR 280,000 by Hungarian regulator
Hungary’s Competition Authority opened on November 14 an investigation on the takeover of Hungarian telecom operator Invitel by Romanian group Digi Communications.
The regulator also slapped a EUR 280,000 fine on Digi Communications, the group reported.
The Hungarian Competition Authority initially approved the transaction between Digi and Invitel, in May 2018. However, it decided to withdraw the initial decision based on allegations that Digi’s Hungarian subsidiary failed to proactively disclose that its services and those of Invitel overlapped in some areas of the country.
Digi representatives said this decision didn’t impact the Invitel transaction and the group’s control over the Hungarian company. The transaction, which was completed at the end of May this year, had a value of EUR 135.4 million.
