29 July 2010

Romania businessman Dinu Patriciu, who has met the International Monetary Fund delegation yesterday, said the IMF representatives live in a theoretical world, without knowing anything about the Romanian economy. The Romanian authorities should find a quick solutions, as others have found before, to send the IMF home. “Unfortunately, these gentlemen live in a theoretical world. They don't know anything about the Romanian economy. This makes them dangerous in the relation with a Government which is not inclined to reform. I think we need to find, as others have before us, a quick way to send them home,” said Dinu Patriciu.

In response, Jeffrey Frank, the head of the IMF mission in Romania, said the Romanian Government doesn't want to end the agreement with the IMF, and that the fund intends to help Romania in any way to exit the crisis.

A joint IMF and European Commission mission is in Romania until August 4 to review the stand-by agreement and unlock the next loan disbursement of EUR 900 million.

Dinu Patriciu, the founder of Rompetrol, which it sold to KazMunaiGaz,  is the owner of of a group of companies which include the Adevarul media group, real estate investment funds, neighborhood retail stores and betting cafes. He was previously  listed by Forbes as the richest man in Romania and among the richest men in the Eastern Europe.
