Director of Romanian Department of Energy: Water, more expensive than uranium
Energy companies in Romania are affected by the excessive cost of water used in electricity production, said Gabriel Dumitrascu, director of the Department of Energy, reports local Hotnews.ro.
Industrial water stands for about 6% of the costs at Nuclearelectrica, the Romanian state-owned company which runs the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, while water cost currently represents 16% at Hidroelectrica, the largest Romanian state-owned electricity producer, Dumitrescu added.
"Water got more expensive than uranium. The sector becomes unattractive," Dumitrescu said, adding that coal companies are in the same situation.
