Discovery makes documentary about the Colectiv club tragedy in Romania

27 January 2016

Discovery Networks is currently working on a documentary about the tragedy that took place at the Colectiv club in Bucharest on October 30 last year.

The incident at Colectiv is one of the biggest tragedies in Romania’s history. 63 people have died following the fire at Colectiv club, and many more were injured. The investigation is currently ongoing.

The documentary aims to present the facts chronologically, and the events will be reported from the witnesses’ perspective.

Discovery Networks, through the executive producer Charlotte Reid, has commissioned the documentary to a Romanian team led by Mihai Predescu, a veteran of this industry. Predescu has over 20 years of experience in international TV production.

Moreover, Nick Allder, an international expert on special effects and safety issues, will be a consultant for this project. Allder has won several awards for Hollywood productions such as Alien (1979) and The Fifth Element (1997).

“We think that the story in Colectiv deserves and needs to be told, to have a comprehensive picture of what happened that night. The program we are working on will be a descriptive one and will exclusively focus on the events that took place on October 30, aiming to provide an overview of the tragedy,” said Paul Welling, Head of Channels, Discovery Networks CEEMEA.

In Romania, the documentary will premiere on Discovery Channel this spring. More details are to be announced shortly.
