Dracula beats bad infrastructure: Higher revenues for Bran Castle despite bad roads

27 April 2015

The myth of Dracula still brings a high number of tourists to the Bran Castle in Romania’s Transylvania region. Almost 20,000 people visited the castle in the first three months of the year, which triggered a 20% year-on-year increase in revenues, reports local Digi24. Two thirds of the tourists are foreigners.

The castle administrators sold tickets worth some EUR 385,000 in the first three months of 2015. The number of tourists increased despite the bad road to the castle, which hasn’t been properly fixed in 10 years. Drivers have to pay attention to the bumps and potholes in the asphalt.

The area will be even more attractive after Queen Mary’s tea house will be rehabilitated. The house was built in the 20s and it was the place where the Queen received her guests. It will now be turned into a café for those who want to spend some relaxed moments near the castle.

The restoration will cost some EUR 300,000 and work is about to start, reports Digi24.
