DreamHack organizers might move competition to stadium in Romania to cater for big number of gamers

28 April 2014

Electronic gaming competition DreamHack Bucharest gathered thousands of computer gaming enthusiasts to Romania last weekend, and in the next years organizers hope to move the competition to the stadium, rather than keep it indoors.

In an interview for local Wall-street.ro, Silviu Stroie, the organizer of the event, said that the hall where the competitions were held was full throughout the entire competition. “We’re talking of thousands of enthusiasts of computer gaming, of electronic sports and about the presence of some of the most important gamers at a global level”.

In the organizer’s opinion, Sala Polivalenta in Bucharest, where the event was held last weekend, is already too small for the large number of computer gaming enthusiasts, so he is taking into consideration moving this competition to a football stadium starting next year.

“We are in talks with authorities in Cluj to organize a similar event next autumn. There are advanced talks. They want to sign a partnership with us as soon as possible, but there might be a problem from the organizational and financial point of view. I am sure we can fill a stadium with such a competition, but we don’t know if we can benefit from all the necessary equipment for the staging of such an event,” Silviu Stroie told Wall-street.ro.

However, he didn’t make any estimation regarding the investments needed for such an event. If 12 people worked this year for organizing DreamHack Bucharest, an event organized on a sports arena would require 10 times more people, according to organizers.

Hosted annually since 2012, DreamHack Bucharest brings to Romania the best professional gamers from around the world, in tournaments where fans can watch them in action on stage or even in the eSport area.
