Drumul Taberei subway line in Bucharest could open this year
The first stage of the development of the 5th subway line in Bucharest, to service Drumul Taberei district, was unblocked following a decision of the Bucharest Court, which rejected the latest appeal related to the contract for automation and traffic safety.
Subway network operator Metrorex will be able to sign this contract in a few days and, most likely, the new subway line to service Drumul Taberei district will open by the end of this year, Metrorex general manager Dumitru Şodolescu explained, according to Romania-actualitati.ro.
The works for the construction of the 5th subway line started in 2012, and the first deadline for opening the line was 2015.
Metrorex estimates that over 300,000 will use this subway line every day. This first stage of 5th subway line has a length of 6.9 kilometers, a depot and ten stations. The project's cost is close to EUR 700 million, most of which came from the EU budget.
