Dutch truck drivers protest against lower paid Romanian workers

Dutch truck drivers protested on Monday ( December 12 ) against the hiring of Eastern European truck drivers, who work for lower salaries. Protesters held a go slow on Dutch roads, driving under 60 kilometers an hour, according to local media.

Dutch drivers, mostly working for small companies, want to put pressure on Dutch authorities and the European Commission, hoping to solve the problem involving low paid Romanian and Polish drivers. Small transport companies are suffering due to unfair competition, according to the small transport companies organization – VERN. According to the organization, Eastern European drivers are not well prepared and pose a danger on Dutch roads.
