Dynamic Romanian city gets World Bank support to improve EU fund absorption after EUR 150 mln developments
A Romanian city which has managed to attract over EUR 150 million in EU funding for its development recently signed a technical assistance project with the World Bank.
The Alba – Iulia municipality in Central Romania will get the World Bank’s help in assessing its long-term plans, strategies, and projects for the 2014-2020 programming period. This will help the city establish a prudent margin for future capital expenditures, identify key priority projects that could be financed within this programming period. The city will also receive recommendations on improved institutional set-up for more efficient project management.
The partnership was signed by Alba Iulia’s city manager Nicolaie Moldovan, the deputy mayor Voicu Paul, and the World Bank Country Manager for Romania, Elisabetta Capannelli on Thursday, September 11. “Alba Iulia is a best practice example in the implementation of EU-funded projects. It has absorbed over EUR 150 million in EU funds,” said Elisabetta Capannelli.
The World Bank will provide its technical assistance over the next 10 months, and help the city better access EU funds under the 2014-2020 programming period. Alba Iulia is a city of 65,000 people. We wrote about it and about its newly renovated citadel, here.
