Early statistics: Romania posts 3.5% economic growth in 2013, above all expectations

Romania's economy grew by a whooping 3.5 percent in 2013 on 2012, exceeding all estimations. This was the biggest GDP increase in Romania in the last five years. Analysts were expecting a GDP growth of maximum 3 percent.

The country's Statistics Institute announced a growth of 5.2 percent in the last quarter of 2013, year-on-year, while compared to the previous quarter, the growth was of 1.7 percent.

The recent statistics estimations are however based on an incomplete set of data, and are the first to be published after a full year ends.

In 2012, Romania's economy went up by 0.7 percent, and the year before, by 2.2 percent. In 2009 and 2010, the country's GDP declined by 6.6 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively. This came after a growth of 7.3 percent in 2008. A similar economic growth was posted in 2005, of 4.2 percent.
