EC asks Romania for clarifications on access restrictions to adult TV channels
The European Commission has asked Romania for clarifications on how porn TVs are broadcast locally and on how the country implements rules on minor protection against viewing adult content.
The EC has asked for information on how well the Romanian legislation mirrors the EU laws on adult programming networks from across the EU. By Romanian law, telecom service distributors have to ensure the technical ways to protect minors against viewing adult content, depending on the type of platform.
TV stations which broadcast adult content cannot be licensed in Romania, but such stations licensed in other EU member states can be broadcast in Romania. So 18 TV stations with adult content are currently being broadcast in Romania, including Super One, which is at the core of audiovisual scandal in Slovakia. A Slovakia viewer complained he gets full aces to the Super One station, without any restrictions for minors.
The Slovakian audiovisual authority mistakenly understood the Super One station is licensed in Romania, and forwarded the complaint to the Romanian audiovisual watchdog CNA. However, the station is licensed in the Netherlands.
Romania too received various complaints about TV stations which are not licensed locally, but which are re—transmitted.
