EC: Romania, biggest drop in agriculture among EU states
The European Commission has warned that Romania’s grain production could decrease by 26% this year compared to 2014. Farmers could harvest only 16.6 million tons of grain.
The corn harvest could amount to only 7.5 million tons, down by 4 million tons (35%) compared to last year, reports local Digi24.
The new prognosis is gloomier than the one in spring, when the declines were expected to be less severe. Romania could thus record the biggest drop in agriculture among EU member states.
According to the autumn forecast of the National Prognosis Commission (CNP), Romania’s agriculture will go down by 3% this year because of the drought that severely affected the crops.
