EC sends experts to review justice reforms in Romania
A new evaluation mission to review Romania’s progress on justice and fight against corruption started on Monday, September 22, according to Mediafax.
Experts from the European Commission met Romanian Justice Minister Robert Cazanciuc, and other Justice Minister representatives about the courts’ workload, about canceling special pensions for judges convicted for corruption, and about continuing the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, among others.
This is the second such review mission after the latest Cooperation and Verification Mechanism report was issued in January 2014. The results of the review will help draft the next report, most likely end-2015 or beginning – 2015. The evaluation will end on Friday, after meetings with all institutions involved in Romania’s justice system.
