EC threatens to take Romania to court unless it lifts barriers on gas export
The European Commission has started infringement procedures against Romania because of the barriers to export natural gas. Should Romania not send a motivated answer within two months, the EC can go to the EU Court of Justice against Romania.
Producers in Romania are obliged to prioritize domestic sales, and gas deals are controlled and approved. Which is why the Commission says the current legal framework in Romania adds unjustified road blocks for natural gas export in Romania.
"The Commission considers that by creating barriers to the free movement of goods within the Single Market, Romania has failed to fulfil its obligations under Article 35 and 36 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and under Article 40(c) of the Directive 2009/73/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 concerning common rules for the internal market in natural gas," according to the EC.
