EC to return EUR 31.4 mln to Romania in EU budget contributions
The European Union will pay Romania back EUR 31.4 million in contributions the country made to the EU budget between 1995 and 2013. This is a result of adjustments made after introducing the new ESA 2010 methodology to calculate member states’ GDP.
According to preliminary calculations of the European Commission, obtained by the Financial Times and cited by local Capital.ro, Romania’s contribution to the EU budget for the period was revised down from EUR 106.5 million to EUR 75.1 million. The difference of EUR 31.4 million will be returned to the country in early-December, according to the Commission, which notes that the figures are preliminary.
The official version of the document will be communicated to the member states in November.
