The Romanian magazine brand Academia Catavencu went back to the magazine's editorial director Doru Buscu, who has recently bought it on auction for over EUR 1.6 million. The trademark was one of the company's assets that was put on sale, along with some real estate assets. The other bidder in the race was journalist Sabina Fati, who, according to media sources, was representing media owner and investor Dan Adamescu. Adamescu owns Unirea Shopping Center and the media group which controls the Romania Libera daily newspaper.

Doru Buscu said he was not prepared to pay such a high sum but he will cover some of the funds, while his colleagues in the newsroom have also contributed, while the remainder of the sum has yet to be found. The winner has five days to pay the amount. Catavencu SA, the company which went bankrupt, is majority owned by Realitatea Media. Academmia Catavencu is a weekly satirical magazine, that also runs investigations.
