Electric and hybrid cars reach 20% market share in Romania

The number of new electric and hybrid cars registered in Romania in the first four months of 2023 has increased by 30% compared to the beginning of 2022. They thus reached a market share of 20%.

A total of 46,328 new vehicles were registered in the first four months of the year, regardless of the type of engine, representing a 25% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Electric cars (100% electric and plug-in hybrids), as well as full hybrids (which also have electric propulsion without external charging), reached a market share of 20% after a sales growth of 29.4% compared to January-April 2022, according to Biziday.

On the other hand, the number of diesel vehicle registrations decreased by -2%, accounting for 13.3% of the total market.

Vehicles with gasoline engines remain the clear leader with a market share of 66.3%. Registrations of such vehicles increased by 1.4% in the first four months of the year compared to the same period in 2022.

The top-selling vehicles in the first four months of the year were Dacia (16,478 units), Renault (3,780 units), Hyundai (3,201 units), Skoda (3,013 units), Toyota (2,815 units), Volkswagen (2,654 units), Ford (2,107 units), BMW (1,566 units), Mercedes (1,504 units), and Suzuki (1,249 units).

The best-selling fully electric car was the Dacia Spring (1,865 units).
