Electricity could become cheaper in Romania starting next year

27 November 2015

The price of electricity paid by end-consumers could decrease by up to 5% starting next year, due to the drop in the distribution tariffs and in the cogeneration bonus.

Additionally, the general VAT rate will also go down from 24% to 20%, said Niculae Havrilet, president of Romania’s Energy Authority ANRE, reports Profit.ro.

The authority will reduce the distribution tariffs charged by regional operators in the field by 8-10% and will also cut the cogeneration bonus by 4% starting January 1, 2016.

On the other hand, several power distributors are currently battling in court with ANRE, after the institution reduced the regulated rate of return for energy companies from 8.52% to 7.7%, which led to the decrease in the regulated tariffs charged by operators.
