Electricity consumption and production in Romania both go up in ten months

Romanians used 3.8 percent more electricity in the first ten months this year than in the same period last year and consumption reached 43.4 million KWh during this period. Individual consumers used 3 percent more electricity, while consumption for public lighting went down by 10.5 percent, according to the most recent statistics.

Romania also exported 10.4 percent more electricity during this interval, reaching 2.2 billion KWh. The country's electricity resources stood at 51 billion KWh, up 3.5 percent on the first ten months of 2010, triggered by an increase in production. Thermal power plants produced 26.4 billion KWh- up 17 percent, while hydroelectric plants produced 13.7 billion KWh – down 18 percent due to the drought. Nuclear and electric power plants produced 9.7 billion KWh, while wind power plants produced only 604 million KWh, however up considerably from a mere 2 million KWh in the first ten months of 2010.
