Electricity consumption in Romania up by nearly 4% in 2010

Romania’s final electricity consumption in 2010 went up 3.8 percent compared to 2009, to 50.5 TWh), according to figures provided by the National Statistics Institute (INS). Electricity exports increased last year to 83.7 million kWh, by 2.8 percent.

Also in 2010, primary energy resources decreased by 0.3 percent and electricity resources increased by 4.2 percent on 2009. The main resources of primary energy in 2010 totaled 34 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), decreasing by 107,800 toe compared to 2009, according to data from the INS.

In 2010 the energy resources were 60.5 billion kWh, an increase of 2.4 billion kWh (4.2 percent) compared to 2009. The increase of electricity resources was mainly due to increased production, with 2.3 billion kWh (more than 4 percent),” the INS informs.

Most of the electricity last year went to consumption in the economy (63.8 percent), while the population consumed 18.5 percent. The own technological consumption in networks and stations represented 11.5 percent , another 5 percent went to export and 1.2 percent was public consumption.
