295MW gas-fired power plant to replace coal-fired units in southern Romania
The Romanian Ministry of Energy and Electrocentrale Craiova signed the financing agreement for the construction of a 295MW high-efficiency cogeneration natural gas and thermal power plant, which will replace the current existing coal-fired energy capacities.
The value of the project is RON 1.28 bln (EUR 250 mln) without VAT, and the value of the grant extended under Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) is RON 826 mln (EUR 165 mln) without VAT.
The project is part of the PNRR - measure I.3, milestone 133, a milestone related to the second disbursement that was recently partly approved by the European Commission.
The completion of the project will have an important impact on achieving the targets of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Change Plan (NECP) 2021-2030 on energy and climate.
At the same time, it will contribute to mitigating the challenges faced by Electrocentrale Craiova by providing heat and electricity in accordance with community requests. The investment will ensure the supply of electricity and heat to consumers.
