Romania’s largest online retailer sees EUR 30 mln Black Friday sales in two hours

Romanians’ appetite for Black Friday discounts seems to grow bigger by the year. eMag, the biggest online retailer in Romania, registered sales worth RON 140 million (over EUR 30 million) in the first two hours of its 2017 Black Friday campaign, on November 17.

By comparison, eMag saw sales of EUR 27.7 million in the first two and a half hours of last year’s Black Friday.

eMag kicked off the Black Friday 2017 campaign on the morning of November 17, at 06:51, and had over 470,000 visitors on its website at its traffic peak.

“Today, November 17, we have a historic record of visits and sales for the first few hours in a Black Friday edition. eMag customers posted orders worth RON 140 million after the first two hours. The “surprise” products included in the Black Friday offer were very popular, as well as the traditional Black Friday products such as home appliances, TVs and phones,” said Tudor Manea, general manager eMag.

The retailers’ clients ordered 350,000 products in the first two hours of the sales campaign, and more than 73% of visits were made from mobile devices. The biggest order so far, of RON 89,000 (EUR 19,000), was made by a customer in Cluj, according to the retailer.

eMag included 2 million products in its Black Friday offer. Among the “surprise” products, there were 1.1 kg of gold, 100 cars and motorcycles, 362 travel vouchers offered by local airline Tarom, 175 event tickets, 53 tourist packages, and 23 luxury watches and jewelery.

Meanwhile, local online retailer evoMag saw 10,000 orders by 09:00, with a traffic peak of over 25,000 unique visitors simultaneously. The most popular products were the TVs, mobile phones, and computer components.
