Enel Green Power Romania and Elcomex build new wind farm in Dobrogea

19 July 2010

Enel Gren Power Romania and local company Elcomex will together build a wind farm in Dobrogea, the companies have announced. This is Enel's second wind farm project in Dobrogea. The deal comes soon after Elcomex has been taken over by Swiss Repower. The 272 MW project, located 30 km off the Black Sea coast, will be connected to Transelectrica's power grid once operational. Enel Green Power Romania has the option to build the project company after it gets all permits. Enel will offer a down payment for the project's development costs, which will be returned if Enel decides not to buy the project company. The project company is called Elcomex Eol, part of the Elcomex group of companies. The group is owned by Romanian businessman Ion Grecu. Some of the firms in the group are working on energy trading. Elcomex posted over EUR 70 million in revenues last year. Enel is already working on a 174 MW wind farm project in Dobrogea.
