EP President: Romania’s place is in the Schengen area
European Parliament President Martin Schulz said on October 15 that the Schengen area is worth being preserved and that Romania’s place is in the Schengen area, according to the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
However, according to EU sources, Romania’s accession to the Schengen area will be delayed for another two years, as France is now also opposing it, reports local Digi24.
Iohannis and Schulz also talked about the refugee crisis. Iohannis said that the EU should better cooperate with transit countries such as Turkey, to have a better control on the movement of refugees.
"We hope for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Syria, we can’t let things as they are now,” said the European Parliament president.
