The European Union will organize a conference in Bucharest in October, to discuss programs assisting Roma people, Laszlo Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, said in an interview quoted by Mediafax.  Andor added the high officials to attend the conference will discuss ways to better implement programs supporting Roma people. The exact date of the conference is yet to be put forward.

Andor has also underlined the fact that countries like Romania and Bulgaria don't sufficiently implement the existing programs supporting Roma people.

This initiative comes soon after around 8,000 Roma from Romania and Bulgaria has been repatriated from France, a decision for which the Western European country has been blamed by the European Union. The EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding has urged the European Commission to take legal action against France over its deportations of Roma, accusing the country of violating EU law, which bans discrimination against any ethnic group or nationality. Roma are allowed to move freely across the EU and stay for up to three months in any country, after which they have to find work or pay into the social security systems.
