Eurobarometer: Romanians don’t have a good opinion about the national economy

A total of 87 percent of Romanians have a bad opinion about the national economy and tend not to trust the government (74 percent) and the parliament (80 percent), according to a Eurobarometer report. On the other hand, Romanians are optimistic about the future of the European Union (76 percent).

In terms of Romanians’ expectations for the national economy in the next 12 months, 41 percent believe the situation will stay the same, 31 percent think it will be worse, and 23 percent believe it will be better.

On employment, almost 20 percent of respondents think the situation will get better, while 35 percent think the situation will change for the worse.

When asked what are the most important issues Romania is facing, 38 percent of respondents indicated the economic situation, 37 percent - rising prices/inflation, and unemployment - 31 percent.

On a personal level, respondents said the main issues are the rising prices/inflation - for 45 percent of respondents, health and social security - 26 percent and the financial situation of the household - 25 percent.

A total of 58 percent tend to trust the European Union (compared to the European average of 32 percent), while 34 percent tend not to trust it.

However, 80 percent tend to not trust the national parliament, a similar percentage (74 percent) also being registered in the case of the government.

When asked if Romania would do better outside the EU, 62 percent disagreed with this statement, while only 26 percent agreed.
