Europe Day celebrated with special events at the Bucharest metro
Europe Day is celebrated this year in Romania with special events at the Bucharest metro. On May 9, 11 subway stations in Bucharest will bear the names of 11 European countries.
The passengers passing through this stations will be able to attend music and dance moments, folk art exhibitions, and other entertaining activities specific for the participating countries. They will also be able to taste traditional food and deserts from the respective countries.
For example, the Romana subway station will become Germany for a day, the Universitate station will be Italy, and the Crangasi metro station will be Austria. The other featured countries will be: Croatia (Piata Victoriei 1), Lithuania (Piata Victoriei 2), Finland (Eroilor metro station), Malta (Gara de Nord), Netherlands (Pipera metro station), Slovenia (Titan metro station), Ireland (Piata Unirii 2), and Romania (Piata Unirii 1).
The event, which takes place between 12:00 and 17:00, is organized by the European Commission’s Representation in Romania in cooperation with the Bucharest subway operator Metrorex and the embassies of the participating countries. A similar event was also organized in 2015.
Europe Day marks the anniversary of the historical 'Schuman declaration', when French foreign minister Robert Schuman, one of the founders of the European Union, presented a vision to unite separate European states into a single community.
