European Parliament commission OKs Romanian nominated for Commissioner
Romanian MEP Corina Cretu, who was nominated European Commissioner for Regional Policy, received the OK from the regional development commission within the European Parliament yesterday (October 1), after a hearing in this commission.
She presented her priorities, and then for more than three hours answered to questions about absorption of EU funds and good management of these funds. She promised zero tolerance to fraud and made creating jobs and helping sustain economic growth by regional development her absolute priority.
Cretu would also want to visit as many of the 277 EU regions as possible during her mandate. Hearings of all nominees for EC seats took place in the last few days, and will continue until October 7, while a vote in the European Parliament should follow on October 22.
