Facebook report: Romania requested information about 36 users in first half of the year

Romania was among the countries which requested Facebook information about its users, according to Facebook’s recent Global Government Requests Report. The Romanian Government made a total of 16 requests to Facebook in the first half of the year, on 36 users/accounts, the company having the legal obligation to provide at least some data for 63 percent of the requests.

Most of the requests came from the U.S. Government, namely 11,000 - 12,000, on 20,000 - 21,000 users/accounts. In this case, Facebook provided information for 79 percent of the requests. India ranked second with 3,245 requests on over 4,140 users, according to the company’s Global Government Requests Report.

Between January and June 2013, Facebook received a single request from countries such as Bulgaria, Cambodia, Iceland, Russia and Japan, on a single user/account.

The company’s Global Government Requests Report covers the first six months of 2013 and details which countries requested information from Facebook about users, the number of requests received from each of those countries, as well as the number of users/user accounts specified in those requests.
