Several famous clubs in Bucharest, shut down temporarily after Bamboo fire

26 January 2017

The activity of 12 clubs in Bucharest was suspended because they didn't have all the necessary permits. More precisely, these locations lacked the authorization to sell food products, reports local Mediafax.

The 12 clubs are to resume activity once they get the permits they need, according to representatives of the District 2 City Hall.

One of the clubs that had their activity suspended following the controls carried out by Bucharest’s District 2 City Hall is Fratelli, one of the most popular clubs in the Romanian capital, according to local Digi24. The other 11 locations are Maya, Tapo, El Grande Comandante, Surubelnita, Seva Cuisine & Lounge, Queens, Giabello 2012, Guesthouse, Greda Events, Aristocrat Events, and Imperial Ballroom.

The District 2 City Hall started checking the clubs in Bucharest after Bamboo, one of the most famous such locations in Bucharest, was completely destroyed by a fire last week. Over 40 people were taken to the hospital by the emergency intervention crews or went to the hospitals on their own, and only a few of them were hospitalized.

According to the District 2 City Hall, the club didn't have an operating license and had been fined for this last year.

Romanian fashion designer Catalin Botezatu, one of Bamboo Club’s founders, said that the club had the needed permits and that the fire might have been set intentionally. He added that this is a hypothesis that neither the firefighters, nor the investigators have ruled out.
