A once derelicthouse of high historic and cultural value located in the Buzau county in Romania is currently being renovated with EU funds and will open for tourists at the end of 2014.

The house, called the Blazonry House (Casa cu Blazoane) is located in the Chiojdu village in Buzau county and is a unique monument in Europe and the world. It is being renovated within a EU project worth some EUR 1 million, according to Ziua de Buzau.

The house was built in the 17th century by free peasants called Mosneni, who owned large plots of land. They used a special material and a special technique for decorations, as well as wooden elements made in traditional ways.

What sets it apart even more is one of the three coats of arms, representing the double-headed eagle, the last coat of arms of the famous Romanian princely family Cantacuzino.

The house was taken over by the Architects Order in Romania, after it had changed several owners. The Architects Order coordinated the work and also contributed some money to its renovation. The Romanian state also contributed some EUR 350,000 to the renovation, taking the entire cost, including EU funds, to some EUR 1.4 million.

After it will be finished, the house will also host a permanent exhibition on the Mosneni civilization, and will be open for tourists. The Mosneni were free peasants who were allowed to own land.
