Fewer foreign visitors to Romania in first quarter; see main nationalities

Fewer foreign visitors came to Romania in the first quarter of this year compared to the first three months of 2010, according to statistics. 1.38 million foreigners came to the country during this period, down 3.2 percent on Q1 in 2010. Around 95 percent of them came from European countries, and more than half, from EU countries.

Hungarian visitors were the most numerous, with almost 40 percent, followed by Bulgarian, with 21 percent, Italian, German and Austrian. The last three covered 8.5, 7.6 and 3.9 percent of the visitors, respectively. Fewer Romanians chose to leave the country in the first three months of the year: 2.34 million, down 3.8 percent, compared to the first quarter of 2010.
