Fewer unemployed in Romania in November 2012, as 76,000 find jobs
Unemployment in Romania went down year-on-year by 0.9 percentage points in November 2012, to 6.7 percent, according to provisional data from the National Statistics Institute. The rate was also down 0.2 percent month-on-month. Romania had 674,000 unemployed people between 15 and 74, down from 750,000 in November 2011.
More men were affected by unemployment than women, with the rate among men 0.9 percentage points higher than for women: 7.1 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively. The rate was lower in the 24 to 74 age group - 5.3 percent in November. This age group also represents the bulk of the estimated unemployed in Romania – 72.6 percent.
Unemployment is internationally defined based on several criteria, applied to the age group 15 to 74: lack of job, availability to start work in the next two weeks and active search for a job in the previous four weeks.
