Film starring Gerard Depardieu to be shot in Romania's seaside resorts Constanta, Mamaia next year
A film starring French actor Gerard Depardieu will be shot next year in the Romanian seaside city of Constanta and in the seaside resort Mamaia.
The announcement came from the Constanta mayor Radu Mazare, who said the movie will be a collaboration between a Hollywood producer and Michel Adam from Fashion TV.
He added that the most important thing was both locations would be mentioned in the movie, which will also be shot in other locations around the world.
“It is important not only because the film is short here, but because they say where the action takes place, because usually as you know, they come shooting in Romania for lower costs, but they say the action takes place somewhere in Eastern Europe. […] This will not be based somewhere in Eastern Europe, but from Hong Kong the characters will leave for Constanta, Romania, and Mamaia, which is good for us, as it means advertising,” said the mayor.
He did not reveal the name of the movie. According to IMDB, the only film set for filming in 2014 for Depardieu would be Affaires étrangères.
The Constanta City Hall will not spend anything, nor make money from this project, but the mayor arranged for the film producers to shoot in the harbour without spending a lot of money.
This will not be the first movie shot by Gerard Depardieu in Romania. Together with Hervei Keitel he starred in the film 'Ipu- Convicted to Live'//A Farewell To Fools, which was short in Romania and was based on a novel by a Romanian writer.
Previously Depardieu has attended the opening of the Transylvania Film Festival. He refused, however, to attend the opening of Ipu in Romania after a disagreement with the producer. The EUR 3 million movie was filmed in 2011 in Sighisoara, and in Saschiz village in Mures county, as well as in Bucharest and in Mogosoaia.
Gerard Depardieu is a French actor, film-maker, businessman and vineyard owner. He has starred in over 10 films, including those in the famous series Asterix, and Cyrano de Bergerac, which landed him a nomination for an Academy Award. He was granted citizenship of Russia in January 2013, made an honorary citizen of Belgium in August 2013, and the same year became a cultural ambassador of Montenegro.
