Romania's Finance Ministry proposes mechanism for quarterly dividend payments

29 August 2018

Romania’s Finance Ministry decided to help companies that choose to pay quarterly dividends and established the mechanism to report these payments through a minister’s order, the ministry announced on Tuesday, August 28.

The Finance Ministry proposed that the dividends paid during the financial exercise are distinctly registered in the balance sheet as receivables. The draft order also sets the deadline for submitting the interim financial reports to the Finance Ministry, namely 30 days from their approval by the general shareholders’ meeting.

With these measures, the Finance Ministry aims to support and encourage the business environment.

Quarterly dividends, which have been approved by law earlier this year, will allow entrepreneurs to be more flexible when planning their budgets and benefit from the profits of their businesses more quickly. The measure also helps the state, which will collect dividend taxes throughout the year, according to finance minister Eugen Teodorovici.
