Fines for fake Black Friday offers in Romania amount to only 0.01% of the sales
Romania’s National Authority for Consumer Protection – ANPC fined local retailers with RON 122,000 (EUR 26,000) following client complaints related to fake Black Friday offers during the November 2017 campaign, local Agerpres reported.
The total Black Friday sales in 2017 reached some EUR 200 million. Thus, the fines issued by ANPC represented only 0.01% of the total sales.
The Competition Council said in May that 80% of the discounts listed by local retailers were not real. Moreover, about a third of the discounted products sold on Black Friday were in fact more expensive than in the period before the shopping event, the competition authority found.
ANPC said it would randomly monitor the offers of the biggest local retailer on Black Friday this year to prevent such things from happening again.
