The Competition Council in Romania will most likely fine 26 retailers, including Metro Cash & Carry, Selgros Cash & Carry and Mega Image for having breached competition legislation when enforcing a promotion.

Retailers enforced the promotion “Get 10 times the price difference if you find the product elsewhere” by signing contracts where suppliers were forced not to sell the product at a lower price to anyone else, according to Bogdan Chiritoiu, the Competition Council president.

All 26 companies will be heard on October 23 in this case, and the Council will make a final decision in November. “I am convinced such agreements exist all over the country, but we should show this practice is not accepted. So far, only opening an investigation has made retailers change their practices,” said Chiritoi, quoted by Agerpres.
