First EU programme approved: help for disadvantaged people in Romania

02 December 2014

The European Commission has approved Romania’s first operational programme for EU funds in the 2014-2020 programming period: the Operational Programme for Helping Disadvantaged People, according to an announcement made by the Ministry of European Funds.

Romania will receive EUR 441 million in European funds via this programme, and it must provide 15% co-financing from the national budget for the whole 2014-2020 period. European funds will come from the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD).

They must be spent by the Government "to provide food to those who need it most and school supplies for children in need," according to the Ministry of European Funds. The aid mainly consists of food parcels that will be delivered to disadvantaged people starting December 2014.
