High school student wins first gold medal for Romania at the International Biology Olympiad
High school student Mircea Dan Mirea won gold at the International Biology Olympiad, this being a first for the Romanian team. Mirea also got silver in the previous edition of the Olympiad.
Alexandru Ionut Duta and Bogdan Ionut Sisca won bronze at the 2015 Olympiad organized in Denmark between July 12 and July 19, according to the Romanian Ministry of Education. George Catalin Maier was also part of the Romanian team.
Romania has been participating in the International Biology Olympiad since 1997 when it got a silver medal and three bronze. The Romanian team didn’t manage to win gold, however, until this year.
A total of 239 students from 62 countries participated in this year’s edition of the International Biology Olympiad.
Six medals for Romania at the International Math Olympiad in Thailand.
Ten medals for Romania at Tuymaada International Olympiad in Russia.
Three gold medals for Romania at the Balkan Geography Olympiad in Serbia.
