Two explosions at the Brussels airport and one at the subway, close to the EU quarters, paralyzed Belgium’s capital on Tuesday morning. Many people have been killed or seriously injured in the blasts, which have been attributed to terrorists.

The Belgian authorities closed the Zaventem airport, which also affects all flights from Romania to Brussels. Romanian state airline Tarom cancelled its flight from Bucharest to Brussels, which was scheduled to depart at 16:50, as well as the return flight. Low-cost airline Blue Air also cancelled today’s flight from Bacau to Brussels.

Some 13 people have been killed in the two explosions that took place in the departure area of the Brussels airport shortly after 8:00 AM local time. More were killed and injured in the explosion at the Maelbeek metro station an hour later.

No Romanian has been found among the blast victims, according to Romania's Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, who sent his condolences to the victims' families.

Belgium has raised its terror threat to its highest level after the blasts. Rail transport to the airport has been halted, all flights have been diverted, and Eurostar has cancelled all trains to and from Brussels, according to BBC News.

Other European capitals have increased the security level at their airports.
