Romanian-Indian tennis duo win title in Madrid
Romanian tennis player Florin Mergea and Indian Rohan Bopanna won the doubles title in the Madrid Mutua Open on Sunday, May 10.
They beat Polish-Serbian pair Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic, after a dramatic final, after saving one match point. The match ended 6-2, 6-7(5), 11-9 for Mergea and Bopanna, who played together for the first time in Madrid.
The victory in Madrid brought Florin Mergea his fourth ATP World Tour title and the first title in an ATP 1000 tournament.
Mergea and Bopanna shared a EUR 247,000 check for their victory in Madrid and each got 1,000 ATP points.
Scot Andy Murray won the singles title in Madrid after a two-set victory against local favorite Rafael Nadal. Murray beat Nadal 6-3, 6-2 and got his tenth Masters 1000 title.
