Ford expects lower car sales in Romania this year

22 November 2013

Carmaker Ford estimates that it will  have sold 6,000 cars in Romania by the end of this year, including commercial vehicles, down from the 2012 level, when it sold 6,800 units.

“Last year we had a very large fleet, but the market had a higher level also. I think the industry will slightly decrease next year,” said Zoltan Brassai, general manager of Ford Romania, quoted by local news agency Mediafax.

According to Brassai, from the 6,000 cars sold locally this year, about 500 will be B-Max, the model produced in its local factory at Craiova.

In Zoltan Brassai’s opinion, Romania’s Cash-for-Bangers (Rabla) program, which allows people who own old cars to scrap their vehicles, receiving in exchange vouchers that can be used when buying a new car, is no longer working as it did 5-6 years ago.

More than 4,000 Ford vehicles were sold in Romania in the first ten months of the year.
