Ford’s factory in Romania returns to pre-crisis capacity
The employees of the Ford automobile factory in Craiova, southern Romania, returned to the three-shift work schedule starting July 20.
The production volume is now close to level before the COVID-19 outbreak, the management of the factory announced.
"As of Monday, July 20, the vehicle factory is working again in three shifts. This proves that the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, and the EcoSport and Puma models we produce here, are in demand both in Europe and elsewhere in the world," said Ford Romania president Ian Pearson on Wednesday, July 22, when president Klaus Iohannis visited the factory in Craiova.
Pearson also announced that Ford Romania started an investment program worth USD 30 million to install a modern press line.
The new line covers an area of 1,900 sqm (almost the size of two Olympic pools). It will allow the plant to produce locally a wider range of components, which are now brought from other Ford factories in Europe.
With investments of over EUR 1.5 billion in its plant in Craiova, Ford Romania currently has approximately 6,000 employees, both at the vehicle production factory and at the engine production factory.
