Ford to start mass production of B-MAX model in Romania next year

14 June 2011

Carmaker Ford will start the mass production for the B-MAX model in its factory in Romania in the first half of 2012, the company has announced. A second model of the B class will also be produced in Romania in the future. The Romanian production unit, located in Craiova will specialize in producing vehicles in the B class, according to Ford. The carmaker initially planned to produce Ford Transit Connect in its Romanian factory.

A B-MAX version was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the second most important automotive event after the auto show in Frankfurt. The presentation of this new model comes almost four years after the American company Ford signed the privatization contract for Romania’s Automobile Craiova.

The production level of B-MAX next year will reach nearly 150,000 units, of which over 80 percent will be exported to other European markets. Therefore, Ford expects 15,000 to 20,000 B-MAX units to be sold on the local market, a volume that will increase Ford’s market share to almost 20 percent, according to previous information.
