20 January 2015

American car brand Ford sold a little over 7,000 units in Romania, in 2014, a 42% increase on 2013, the company announced.

Ford thus became the third best-selling auto brand in Romania, reaching a market share of 8.2%, according to official data from the Car Registrations and Driving Licenses Direction.

This data reflects the number of new vehicles registered in Romania last year, which may be slightly different than the number of vehicles actually sold last year, which haven’t yet been released by the Romanian Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).

The best-selling Ford model in Romania was the Fiesta, which sold 2,575 units, followed by Focus, with 1,676 units, and the light commercial vehicle Transit, with 827 units. Sales of commercial vehicles represented 18% of Ford’s total sales last year.

“While the Romanian auto market grew by 20%, in 2014, Ford grew by more than 40%. We are especially happy that we managed to increase sales both to individuals as well as to fleet clients,” said Zoltan Brassai, Ford Romania’s general manager.

He added that Ford’s sales to individuals increased by almost 50% last year, while fleet sales were up by about 40%.
