Foreign currency reserves down 4.2% in Romania on exchange rate volatility

Romania's foreign currency reserves went down 4.2 percent in October month-on-month, to EUR 32.1 billion, according to the country's Central Bank (BNR). The drop was mainly due to the evolution of the foreign exchange rates, according to BNR.

The country's gold reserves stood at 103.7 tonnes, which were valued at EUR 4 billion. Romania's international reserves, which includes the foreign currency and the gold reserves were of EUR 36.1 billion at the end of October, down on EUR 37.6 billion at end-September.

Romania has to pay EUR 292 million of the public debt in foreign currencies in November.
