Foreign direct investment up by a quarter in Romania in 2015

15 February 2016

The investments made by non-residents in Romania totaled almost EUR 3 billion last year, up by EUR 614 million compared to 2014. It was the best performance after 2009.

The equity investments, including the reinvested net profit, reached EUR 3.3 billion in 2015, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

Foreign shareholders brought some EUR 500 million more capital compared to 2014. Nevertheless, intragroup loans continued to have a negative net value of EUR 305 million. This means that foreign shareholders continued to withdraw the credit lines they had granted in the past to local subsidiaries.

In 2014, the intragroup loans had a net negative value of EUR 425 million. The net investment inflow rose by EUR 200 million in December compared to November.
