Foreign investors could receive Romanian citizenship sooner

25 March 2016

The foreign business people who invest more than EUR 1 million in Romania will receive the Romanian citizenship sooner than the normal waiting time, namely in maximum two years.

This will also apply to foreigners who will take over high-importance jobs in Romania that couldn’t be filled with Romanians, according to a bill that still needs to be adopted by the Parliament, cited by local Profit.ro.

According to the current law, a person can receive the Romanian citizenship after living in the country for at least eight years or five years after marrying a Romanian citizen. The terms can be reduced to four years, respectively 2.5 years, if the person has invested more than EUR 1 million in Romania.
